Ashton Bartlett

WMAF Champion

My name is Ashton Bartlett. I was born and raised in Hamilton, New Zealand, and whakapapa back to the Far North, where the name Ryder comes from — a region well known within my whānau for producing strong athletes and competitors.

I grew up in a close and supportive family environment, shaped by both gentle guidance and tough love from my parents. With four brothers, competition was part of everyday life and helped build the mindset and resilience I carry with me today.

From a young age, Dad had me involved in rugby, where I earned spots in junior rep teams. Despite often being the smallest player on the field, I always gave everything I had. While rugby taught me discipline and toughness, I was never much of a team player.

Combat sports had always interested me. Whether it was sparring with my brothers or watching the UFC, fighting was something I naturally gravitated toward. Eventually, I made the decision to join CORE MMA, and I haven’t looked back since.

In just two years, I’ve had four fights on Knees of Fury. Along the way I’ve faced adversity, including shoulder injuries that resulted in one no contest, but I’ve never let setbacks define me. I’ve always believed in myself, and I’ve been fortunate to have people around me who believe in me too. My mindset is simple — train hard, stay ready, and always be willing to step up and fight.

Most recently, I was given the opportunity to take a WMAF regional title fight on one week’s notice, where I came away with a unanimous decision victory.
